Each July, communities across the country celebrate National Park and Recreation Month, recognizing the vital role parks, recreation programs, and public spaces play in supporting health, wellness, and community connection. This year’s theme, “The Power Of…” highlights the power of parks and recreation, play, nature, community, belonging, well-being, and the people who make these experiences possible.

The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), along with cities like Dunedin, proudly recognizes the park and recreation professionals who make these experiences possible. These dedicated individuals work every day to maintain beautiful parks and facilities, lead engaging programs, and create welcoming spaces for people of all ages and abilities.

Park and recreation professionals do much more than manage parks, facilities, and rec centers. They help promote physical and mental wellness, strengthen family bonds, encourage social interaction, and inspire environmental stewardship. Their work has a lasting impact on the community by providing opportunities for residents and visitors to play, learn, and thrive.

This month, Dunedin Parks & Recreation proudly celebrates the exceptional team members and volunteers who help make Dunedin a vibrant and active community. Through their hard work and dedication, residents have access to safe parks, quality programs, and enriching recreational experiences year-round.

Parks and recreation represent:

  • The Power of Connection - Parks and recreation provides spaces where relationships grow, cultures meet, and communities bond.
  • The Power of Play - From playgrounds to programs to youth sports - play fuels creativity, joy, and lifelong learning.
  • The Power of Community - Public spaces offer room for everyone to gather, celebrate, and heal.
  • The Power of Nature - Access to nature restores, inspires, and improves quality of life.
  • The Power of Belonging - Welcoming parks and programs provide spaces where everyone feels valued.
  • The Power of Well-Being - Parks and recreation advances health, resilience, and shared community benefits.

With summer in full swing, there’s no better time to explore all that Dunedin Parks & Recreation has to offer. Residents and visitors can enjoy Dunedin’s 35 parks and 540 acres of green space for picnics, playground fun, walking trails, and outdoor relaxation. Families can cool off at Highlander Pool or the Kiwanis Sprayground, while golfers can visit Stirling Park’s driving range or schedule lessons with the golf professional.

Dunedin’s recreation centers also offer programs and activities for every age group, including the Dunedin Community Center, MLK Jr. Recreation Center, and Hale Senior Activity Center. Summer offerings include swim lessons, water fitness, camps, teen nights, exercise classes, music, dance, martial arts, archery, senior luncheons, cards, crafts and more.

This July, take time to celebrate the parks, programs, and people who help make recreation possible. Whether you're attending a class, splashing in the pool, or enjoying a walk through the park, you’re a part of a stronger, healthier community built on through parks and recreation.
