Rain Barrel Program

About

The Rain Barrel program is a sustainable initiative to empower residents to collect and reuse rainwater.  Free barrels will be provided to residents who sign-up in advance and attend Rain Barrel workshops hosted by UF IFAS.

Some benefits of collecting rainwater include:

  • Reduction of potable water usage
  • Erosion reduction
  • Reduction of storm-water runoff
  • Cost savings on your residential water bill

Rain barrel uses can be:

  • Irrigation of plants and landscaping
  • Bird Baths
  • Washing cars
  • Cleaning garden tools

Barrels are provided to residents who register for our annual workshop in June. Registration for the workshop open in early-mid June.

Please note: The City of Dunedin was previously supplied with barrels from the Dunedin Coca-Cola Beverages of Florida factory. Barrels are now exclusively provided by our City Utilities Department, creating a truly circular zero waste program. If you are not able to obtain a barrel from our workshop, many are available on various Marketplaces.

We will keep you informed on workshop registrations when they open.
