Post-Storm Recovery: Permitting Reminder for Homeowners
Published on June 10, 2026

Nearly two years have passed since Hurricanes Helene and Milton impacted Florida’s Gulf Coast, including Dunedin. While both storms caused significant damage to homes and businesses throughout our community, we are pleased to report that building permits have been issued to repair or replace most flood-damaged structures.
In the coming weeks, the City will mail notices to property owners whose flood-damaged homes have not yet received the required repair permits. Property owners will be granted an additional 60 days to obtain any necessary permits, including for repairs that may have already been completed without permits. The notices will include information on the permitting process as well as contact details for assistance.
Visit our Permits & Inspections webpage for post-storm recovery permitting information, including the Storm Recovery Permits widget, fact sheets, FAQs, and other helpful resources.
As the 2026 hurricane season begins, we encourage all residents and business owners to visit the City’s Flood Awareness webpage for important information on storm preparedness, flood insurance, floodplain management, property protection, and responsible building practices.
We appreciate your continued efforts in our community’s recovery and resilience. We wish everyone a safe and successful 2026 hurricane season.
