Dunedin Insights After Care Programs

Every school day, hundreds of families begin and end their day with confidence, knowing their children are part of a safe, engaging and supportive environment. The City of Dunedin's Before and After School Programs provide quality care for VPK (age 4) through 5th-grade students at Garrison Jones Elementary, San Jose Elementary and Dunedin Elementary, offering experiences that extend well beyond traditional child care.

Supporting Learning Beyond the Classroom

Designed to support the needs of working families while helping children grow, our program creates an environment where learning continues after the school bell rings. Under the guidance of experienced youth development professionals, children are encouraged to explore new interests, build confidence, strengthen friendships and develop important life skills through meaningful daily activities.

Each morning, beginning at 7:30 a.m., children are welcomed with a variety of activities before enjoying a free breakfast provided through the school district. After school, the program remains open until 6 p.m., giving students a fun and structured place to spend their afternoons. From creative arts and crafts to organized games, STEM activities, outdoor recreation and cooperative group challenges, every day offers something new to spark curiosity and keep children engaged.

Academic success remains a key priority. Through a partnership with the Juvenile Welfare Board, students have access to homework assistance and tutoring, helping reinforce classroom learning while building confidence in their academic abilities. Families often see improvements in responsibility, study habits and overall enthusiasm for school.

Equally important are the social connections children develop throughout the year. Students interact with classmates from different grade levels, learning valuable lessons in teamwork, communication, respect and leadership. Seasonal celebrations, themed activity days and special events create lasting memories while fostering a strong sense of belonging within each school community.

More Than Child Care

The greatest strength of the program is its dedicated staff. Their commitment goes far beyond supervision. They serve as mentors, role models and positive influences, creating an atmosphere where every child feels welcomed, encouraged and supported. Their passion and professionalism help make each site a place where children look forward to spending time each day.

For parents and guardians, the Before and After School Programs provide more than dependable child care. Families are reassured knowing their children are safe and cared for by experienced professionals.

The City of Dunedin's Before and After School Programs continue to make a meaningful impact on children and families throughout the community. By combining quality programming, academic support, enriching activities and compassionate leadership, the programs help shape confident, capable young people while strengthening the community one family at a time.
