America is known as the “Land of the Free Because of the Brave.” On Veterans Day, we celebrate our freedom and honor the brave men and women in uniform who put themselves in harm’s way to keep us safe and free.
Join us in downtown Dunedin at John R. Lawrence Pioneer Park on November 11 at 11 a.m. for a patriotic and musical tribute recognizing the men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. The ceremony promises to be a moving celebration of service and sacrifice.
This year we also celebrate the 250th birthday of the Army, Navy and Marines. From a year before the signing of the Declaration of Independence until today, our military has developed into the mightiest fighting force and benevolent peacekeepers in history.
Together we will share a good, old-fashioned Veterans Day filled with music, song and traditional military exercises. Our guest speaker, Thomas “T-Man” Brown, will remind us of our responsibilities to our fellow veterans in need.
The Heavenly Hollies will recreate the World War II USO tour with their rendition of the Andrews Sisters’ “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.” Soulfish will entertain before and after the event, and coffee and muffins will be served before the ceremony courtesy of Wild Iris Restaurant.
Numerous organizations that enrich the lives of our veterans will have tables set up to share their information. This is the biggest veterans-related event of the year, presented by SPC Zachary L. Shannon VFW Post 2550, American Legion Post 275 and the City of Dunedin. We hope to see you there.
