Skinner Boulevard is now open to traffic in both directions following the completion of two single-lane roundabouts at Highland and Douglas avenues.

Construction of the roundabouts began last fall as part of the Skinner Boulevard Improvement Project. Led by the Florida Department of Transportation, the project is designed to enhance safety and improve traffic flow from Main Street/Bass Boulevard to Broadway. Planned features include bike lanes, bus bays and a multipurpose path connecting to the Pinellas Trail. Completion of the full project is expected in spring 2026.

According to FDOT, roundabouts not only decrease traffic delays by about 20 percent, but they also improve safety for drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists. In fact, roundabouts reduce fatalities and serious injuries by about 80 percent.

The speed limit on Skinner Boulevard from Main Street/Bass Boulevard to Broadway will be set at 25 mph. Visit the City’s Roundabouts page for information on best practices for navigating a roundabout.
