Dunedin Marina Update: Progress and Next Steps
Published on May 19, 2025
The City of Dunedin is actively working to restore and rebuild the Dunedin Marina after the significant damage caused by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Most recently, the City Commission unanimously approved action items directing staff to move forward with the restoration efforts. Below is an update on the current progress, planned actions, and next steps for this important community amenity.
Key Updates:
- The City Commission approved the consultant contract for the design and permitting of the replacement fishing pier and the day docks and emergency docks at the April 15 Commission Work Session.
- The contract to purchase the Marina shore power pedestals, which house utilities for docked boats, was approved by the City Commission at the May 8 Commission Meeting.
- A contractor has been hired to complete stabilization work on the docks and finger piers.
- Slip renters will be able to return to the marina for recreational use by dock/slip location upon completion and approval of an updated User Agreement application.
- The Marina boat ramp will remain closed to the public until the slip renters have the opportunity to return to their docks. The reopening of the boat ramp will be re-evaluated after the marina is operational and construction of the most damaged areas has commenced.
- The next phase of the marina restoration will be the reconstruction of the eastern bulkhead, with an estimated completion date of early 2026.
- Future plans include replacing Docks A and B with floating docks, with an estimated completion in 2027.
- The City’s Parks staff has been working diligently to refurbish areas of the peninsula that were damaged. Once the boat club building area is secured and lighting is restored, the western peninsula will reopen for the Windlasses, DYSA, and public access.
Future Planning:
- City staff continues to meet all City, State, and Federal requirements to ensure a safe reopening of the Marina and to secure FEMA reimbursement.
We appreciate your patience as we work diligently to restore and rebuild the Marina. Our timeline continues to depend on the response time and availability of contractors. Stay tuned for further updates and opportunities to provide input on the future of this community amenity.
