The City of Dunedin is urging residents to stay clear of Hammock Park recreation areas due to an equipment failure which occurred Thursday, July 17.

The City’s contractor doing repairs to the lift station pump experienced equipment failure causing a sanitary sewer overflow. The contractor and City crews worked through the night to stop the flow of wastewater back into the lift station and fix the failed piece of equipment.

Hammock Park areas closed include: the playgrounds, pavilion, dog walking areas, disc golf, west parking lot, including the area near St. Andrews Chapel (which will be accessible for a previously planned funeral). Out of an abundance of caution the City has closed these areas for the next three days to continue clean up, disinfecting and testing the surrounding water quality.

Surrounding area homes were not impacted. The Sanitary Sewer Overflows were limited to public owned lands.

Public safety, and the safety/quality of the environment in and around Hammock Park is a top priority. The City asks the public to heed the closed/warning signs until the signs are removed when the area is safe to return.
