Dunedin Celebrates the Return of the Clearwater Ferry

The City of Dunedin celebrated the return of the Clearwater Ferry service with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Dunedin Marina on Thursday, October 9. City officials, including City Manager Jennifer Bramley, Mayor Maureen “Moe” Freaney and members of the City Commission joined representatives from the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) to welcome the ferry back to Dunedin, where it picked up passengers there for the first time since service from the City was halted last year.
Ferry operations were suspended after the Dunedin landing was damaged during Hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024. Through an interlocal agreement with the City of Clearwater, a temporary landing was constructed, allowing the service to resume this fall.
“The return of the Clearwater Ferry Service to Dunedin is a testament to our community’s resilience and the power of regional collaboration,” said Mayor Freaney. “While we continue to rebuild from Hurricanes Helene and Milton, including the restoration of our beloved Dunedin Marina and City Pier, this partnership with PSTA and the City of Clearwater shows what we can accomplish when we work together. The ferry offers residents and visitors another wonderful way to experience Dunedin’s waterfront charm and explore our beautiful Gulf Coast, reminding us all why this community is so special and worth every effort to restore and strengthen.”
“This expansion of the Clearwater Ferry into Dunedin is more than a new transit option, it is a direct investment in the resilience of our community and the strength of our regional connections,” said PSTA CEO Brad Miller.
The Dunedin “Blue Line” ferry operates Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The first boat departs from the Dunedin Marina at 10 a.m., with departures every two hours. The route includes stops at Downtown Clearwater, Clearwater Beach, and returns through Downtown Clearwater before docking again in Dunedin.
