"Freedom in Focus: Florida’s Legacy of Liberty for America 250" - May 27-November 13
This seasonal exhibit invites visitors to explore the ideas, documents, and moments that have shaped our nation and Florida’s constitutional history. Through a mix of interactive displays, interpretive panels, and a guided timeline, the exhibit connects foundational principles—from early influences like the Magna Carta to the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and Florida’s governing framework—bringing the evolution of liberty to life.
As part of this initiative, the museum is launching a community-wide Declaration of Independence signing project, traveling from the museum to the Dunedin Public Library and City Hall before returning for a special reenactment event on June 20 at Andrews Memorial Chapel.

Pop-Up Living Declaration - May 25-June 30
The Living Declaration is your opportunity to recreate history with the Dunedin History Museum. The community will be able to inscribe a word of the original Declaration in the original script at three locations throughout Dunedin:
- The Dunedin History Museum (May 25-June 1 and June 14-30)
- Dunedin City Hall (June 1-7)
- The Dunedin Public Library (June 8-14)
City/County officials and more will be recreating the signatures on the Declaration throughout June, with Dunedin city officials signing on June 4. Once completed, the Declaration will be on display at the Dunedin History Museum in the "Florida During the American Revolution: Celebrating America 250" exhibit. More information here.
Declaration Signing Reenactment - June 20
Step into history as the Dunedin History Museum brings the Revolutionary era to life through a dynamic and immersive reenactment experience at Andrews Memorial Chapel (1899 San Mateo Drive).
Doors open at 11 a.m. at Hammock Park, where guests are invited to explore an interactive Revolutionary War encampment. The campsite will feature British soldiers from the King’s 60th Regiment and Brown’s East Florida Loyalists, offering a unique perspective on those who fought against the Patriots. Visitors can also step inside George Washington’s headquarters tent and experience daily life during the war through engaging activities, including marching and musket firing demonstrations, candle making, and period toy activities.
This special event will feature a live reenactment of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, “A Conversation Before Signing,” written by Michael Cote. Portraying George Washington is Steve Beaty, Chair of the Dunedin History Museum Board, bringing added depth and local connection to this powerful moment in history. The performance captures the tension, significance, and spirit of one of the most defining moments in American history. Surrounding the performance, guests can explore a Revolutionary War encampment with historic tents that tell the story of the American Revolution and offer a glimpse into daily life during this pivotal time.
