We are excited to announce the updated Duke Energy EV Fast Chargers at the Library are now fully booted, open and ready for use!

The new electric vehicle (EV) Fast Chargers at the Dunedin Public Library have been upgraded with advanced equipment and technology. Plus, one station is now ADA compliant. EV chargers are to be used by local patrons, staff, and visitors alike. They offer a fast way to fuel up compared to traditional charging stations.

App and Starting a Charge
Users need to download the EVConnect app and create a login. Once logged in, users can load their app with funds and follow the prompts to initiate a charging session.

Charging Time
Electric vehicle charging times range depending on vehicle type, battery level and life, and amount of power being provided by the station. Typically, fast chargers can fuel an EV in about 20-60 minutes.

ADA Compliant
One station is compliant with ADA space and height accommodations. Although the ADA spot is available to be used for those who need it, it is not solely reserved for ADA use. Drivers who do not need ADA accommodations are allowed to charge from the ADA spot, but should first charge from the non-ADA spot if available as a courtesy.

Charging Fees
EV drivers need to download the associated app to activate a charging session. The FCF-1 rates are set by the Florida Public Service Commission and administered by Duke Energy. These rates/fees are subject to change. Users will pay through the app and can load their balance prior to starting a session.

Etiquette
Once an EV is fueled, it should be moved from the charging station and may be parked elsewhere. Charging stations are to be treated as fueling stations and should not be viewed as parking spots. You can imagine how upset others would be if you parked at a gas pump after filling up since no one else would be able to fuel their vehicles. Charging spots are not parking spots. Idling fees may be utilized if this becomes a recurring issue.

Charging plugs should be returned to their slot after a session is complete and cords should be neatly returned to their designated areas. This helps ensure equipment stays in good condition and helps reduce tripping hazards for the next charging guest.

No Golf Carts, E-Bikes, E-Scooters or non-EVs
Golf carts are not permitted to utilize electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. EV charging stations are not compatible with golf carts, e-bikes, e-scooters, etc. Even if a golf cart has an adapter, they are not to use the stations as the chargers can overload and ruin the golf cart batteries. EV charging stations are reserved for completely street legal electric vehicles, meaning vehicles that can drive on the highway.

Florida State Statute 366.94(3)(a) prohibits non-electric vehicles from parking in EV charging spots.

Troubleshooting
EV drivers can contact EVConnect support by calling 888-780-0062. This number is physically printed on the stations.

Hours
Stations are open 24/7 365 days a year. To check availability, users can login to the EVConnect app to see if the station is in use or is available in real time.
