The City of Dunedin launched its 2026 Citizen Satisfaction Survey, continuing its commitment to engaging residents and gathering feedback on the issues that matter most to the community.

Citizen surveys provide a direct line of communication between elected officials, City administration and residents, helping identify community strengths and areas in need of improvement. Results help guide City leadership in making informed decisions on policy, projects and the allocation of budget resources.

The City of Dunedin launched its first Citizen Survey in 2019 and committed to conducting the survey every other year. Due to the pandemic, the second survey was delayed and administered in 2022. The City returned to a biennial schedule with the 2024 survey, when more than 2,000 residents participated.

Key highlights from 2024 include:

  • City Amenities: Several facilities maintain over a 90% satisfaction rate, including the Dunedin Library (98%), Community Center (97%), Hale Senior Center (96%) and the Stirling Driving Range (92%).

  • Parks and Recreation: 76% of residents are very satisfied with the proximity of parks (97% very + somewhat), 72% are very satisfied with park’s maintenance (97% very + somewhat), 60% very satisfied with City sponsored events (95% very + somewhat).

  • Solid Waste and Recycling: 76% of respondents are very satisfied with trash collection (96% very + somewhat), and 68% are very satisfied with recycling services (93% very + somewhat).

  • Overall Performance & Values: 68% strongly agree the City values arts and culture (95% strongly + somewhat), 48% strongly agree the City values historic preservation (82% strongly + somewhat), and 47% strongly agree the City values diversity (80% strongly + somewhat).

The citizen surveys are designed to maintain continuity and track progress over time. By closely aligning questions with previous surveys, the City ensures data consistency and allows for direct comparisons to measure the impact of past initiatives and improvements. Understanding resident feedback and areas of concern helps City leadership make informed decisions about future policy direction and resource allocation.

The survey will provide another opportunity for residents to voice their opinions, provide insights, and shape the future of their community. The City looks forward to building upon past successes and fostering continued collaboration between residents and local government.

Comparing results year over year allows City staff to identify areas that have improved and areas that require attention. It is also a tool used by City staff to align projects, initiatives and budget dollars to those areas of most concern to our residents.
